About Senior Market Sales, Inc.

Senior Market Sales, Inc. is a full-service insurance marketing organization dedicated to helping independent insurance agents leverage their time, make more money and put their business in a position of distinction.

A Strong Foundation

After starting his career in the 1960s as an agent and later a GA in Milwaukee, Wis., Milton Kleinberg’s reputation as an expert in the Medicare market led him to what he thought would be a temporary business opportunity in Omaha, Neb. An insurance broker there had landed a contract distributing Medicare Supplement insurance for Colonial Penn, and they wanted Kleinberg to come down and help launch the program. The “temporary” move soon became permanent though, with Kleinberg buying into the company that would later become Senior Market Sales (SMS) in 1982.

What Senior Market Sales lacked in size and notoriety in those early years, it more than made up for with innovative ideas about the ways that insurance could be marketed and sold and a singular desire to do right by its agents and their clients.

Who We Are Now

Senior Market Sales has since evolved from the small Medicare Supplement agency it was almost three decades ago into one of the industry’s foremost independent marketing organizations (IMO). We now have over 100 employees in three offices and are recognized throughout the industry for our integrity, quality products, superior service and cutting-edge technology.

Our product portfolio still focuses primarily on Medicare Solutions (Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D), but we've also added Annuities, Life insurance, Long-Term Care insurance, Dental insurance and Travel insurance among other products.

Key Leadership Added

Hershel Kleinberg, Milton’s son, joined the company in 1997 as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President. Hershel has helped establish SMS as a technology leader in the insurance industry, overseeing the development of the company’s powerful lead management software, various web sites and many other web-based tools and services.

Another key acquisition came in 1998 when Jim Summers took over the strategic direction and day-to-day operations as President of Senior Market Sales. With Summers at the helm, SMS has experienced dramatic growth, making the prestigious Inc. 5000 List of America’s fastest-growing small businesses in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

True To Our Roots

Though SMS has grown and changed significantly over the years, the foundation that was laid three decades ago is still intact: SMS remains a company run for agents, by agents with an emphasis on service, quality and innovation. We understand the independent agent’s needs and we continue to offer the products, services and tools our agents need to leverage their time, make more money and put their business in a position of distinction.

We do all of this according to a favorite saying of our CEO, Milton Kleinberg:

“Successful people do those things that failures refuse to do.”
